The rights of children are incorporated in the UN-"Convention on the Rights of the Child". The convention was passed by the UN General Assembly on 20 November 1989 unanimously. It underlines the right to life, survival and individual development, protection against exploitation and violence and the right to participate. All ratifying states obliged themselves to consider the well-being of children in all political and social decisions and to report regulary on behalf of that to the Committee on the Rights of the Child. All states of the world except Somalia and the United States of America ratified the convention.

The above list already shows that children´s rights are no human rights of small size but rather the core of human rights, as children are the future actors of world´s fate.
Besides the objectives of child mortality, child trafficking and violence agaist children another basic issue is the registration of children after birth. Children from poor families, rural or landlocked countries or those from ethnic minorities more often are not registered. In consequence, as the identity is not stated officially, they are not able to call upon their rights. Being without identity and nationality makes them more vulnerable to pornography, adoption and child labour.
